Himeji Nishi Senior High School

Principal’s Remarks

Welcome to the English website for Himeji Nishi High School.

Himeji Nishi High School is a public high school located at the foot of Himeji Castle in Himeji City, Japan. The school has a long history and is now in its 138th year. Due to its age, the main school building was torn down, and in 2009 a new school building replaced it, drawing inspiration from the nearby castle.

Himeji Nishi is home to many talented students and teachers. The school has a high academic standard and our students put a lot of effort into their studies. Many students who graduate from the school go on to study at the best universities in Japan. Our students are also actively involved with school clubs or sports teams. In fact more than 90% of our students belong to a school sports team or cultural club. This year some of the students on our track and field team went on to compete at the Inter-High level.

Himeji Nishi strives to produce students who will go on to be both local and global leaders in their fields. The school was honored to be selected to participate in the Super Global High School program in 2014. The Super Global High School program encourages students to become global leaders and helps them to improve their communication and presentation skills in both Japanese and English. Himeji Nishi students also participate in various foreign exchange programs and study tours. For example, we have a sister school in Perth, Australia with whom we exchange students for a few weeks each year and select students from our Super Global High School program go on a 10 day study trip to the USA each spring.

Himeji Nishi High School’s motto is “Creativity. Vigor. Cooperation,”. We aim to encourage our students to exemplify those qualities and to be the best that they can be.
